Comic Con originated in San Diego in 1970 during the Golden State Book Convention. It has since grown into a global franchise with events in France, United Kingdom and Taiwan occurring throughout the year. This is the second year a Comic Con has been held in Japan.
Tokyo Comic Con was the brainchild of Stan Lee -- creator of “Spiderman” and “X-Men” -- who later became the chairman emeritus of MARVEL and Steve Wozniac, co-founder of Apple Inc. The pair originally started the "Silicon Valley Comic Con" and brought the same concept to Tokyo in December of 2016.
