SEOUL, June 2 (UPI) -- K-pop superstars BTS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with "Butter," marking the fourth time the boy band has reached the top of the singles chart in the past nine months.
The Billboard Hot 100 blends U.S. streaming, radio airplay and sales data across all genres.
"Butter," which is the band's second all-English track, drew 32.2 million U.S. streams and sold 242,800 downloads in the week following its May 21 release, Billboard said, using figures from MRC data. It also received 18.1 million radio airplay audience impressions in the week ending Sunday.
The new track continues a run of Billboard chart-toppers that started with last year's "Dynamite," BTS' first English single. "Life Goes On," the lead track from the album Be, also debuted at No. 1 in December, marking the first time a song with Korean lyrics reached the top spot.
BTS was featured in a remix of "Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)," by Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, which hit No. 1 in October.
"Butter," an upbeat dance-pop track that band leader RM said he hoped would be "the summer song for 2021," has been off to a sizzling start since its release.
The video for the single broke records on YouTube with more than 108 million views in its first 24 hours and 3.9 million concurrent views at its premiere. "Butter" also set music platform Spotify's record for most first-day streams, with 20.9 million.
It swept to the top of iTunes charts in over 100 countries, including the United States, Britain, Canada and Germany, as well as local music charts in South Korea and Japan.
With "Dynamite," "Life Goes On" and "Butter" debuting on top of the Hot 100, BTS is the first group with three No. 1 entrances, Billboard said. Among all acts, Ariana Grande leads with five.
The group, which consists of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, will hold an online fan event on June 13 and 14 to commemorate its eighth anniversary.
