Latin Grammys 2019: Rosalia, Alejandro Sanz win big

Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Rosalia and Alejandro Sanz were the big winners at the 20th annual Latin Grammy Awards which took place Thursday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Rosalia won Album of the Year for her project El Mal Querer, beating out competition from Sanz's #Eldisco, Vida by Luis Fonsi, Visceral by Paula Arenas, Paraiso Road Gang by Ruben Blades, Cargar La Suerte by Andres Calamaro, Agustin by Fonseca, Donde Bailaran Las Ninas? by Ximena Sarinana, Mas De Mi by Tony Succar and Fantasia by Sebastian Yatra.

El Mal Querer also took home Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album.

Alejandro Sanz's and Camila Cabello's "Mi Persona Favorita" won Record of the Year, beating out "Parecen Viernes" by Marc Anthony, "Verdades Afiladas" by Andres Calamaro, "Ahi Ahi" by Vicente Garcia, "Kitipun" by Juan Luis Guerra 4.40, "Querer Mejor" by Juanes featuring Alessia Cara, "La Plata" by Juanes featuring Lalo Ebratt, "Aute Cuture" by Rosalia, "No Tengo Nada" by Sanz and "Cobarde" by Ximena Sarinana.

Ricky Martin, Roselyn Sanchez and Paz Vega served as hosts, with the ceremony being kicked off with a number of performances that paid homage to some of the industry's biggest legends.

Anitta took to the stage alongside Olga Tanon and Milly Quezada to perform a merengue version of "La Vida es un Carnaval."

Carlos Rivera, Reik and Leonel Garcia then appeared to sing Juan Gabriel's "Querida." Prince Royce, Natalia Jimenez and Calibre 50 joined forces to pay tribute to the late Joan Sebastian and perform "Secreto de Amor."

Martin pulled double duty and performed Soda Stereo's "Musica Ligera" in honor of the late Gustavo Cerati alongside Draco Rosa, Fito Paez and Beto Cuevas.

Martin performed a second time alongside Bad Bunny and Residente with the trio bringing out their recently released collaboration "Cantalo."

Bad Bunny also won the award for Best Urban Music Album for X 100Pre and closed out the show by performing "Callaita."

"Mi Persona Favorita" also took home Best Pop Song, Pedro Capo's "Calma" won Song of the Year and Nella was named Best New Artist.
