May 25 (UPI) -- John Mayer displays his comedic side in the new music video for his single "New Light."

The clip, released Thursday, heavily uses a green screen to place a dancing Mayer in front of a number of landscapes and backgrounds including Washington, D.C., Times Square and a baseball field, among others.

Mayer is seen wearing a purple hoodie with pajama pants as he delivers goofy facial expressions and plays the guitar.

"But if you give me just one night/ You're gonna see me in a new light/ Yeah, if you give me just one night/ To meet you underneath the moonlight/ Oh, I want a take two, I want to breakthrough/ I wanna know the real thing about you/ So I can see you in a new light," Mayer sings during the chorus.

Mayer explained the music video's aesthetic on Twitter.

"I needed to make a video for 'New Light' but nobody could agree on a budget. (MUSIC INDUSTRY amirite?) So I went to a place downtown and made this with a company that usually does birthday and Bar Mitzvah videos," he said.
