May 21 (UPI) -- Hip-hop trio Salt-N-Pepa teamed up with En Vogue for a special reunion performance to close out the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.

Salt-N-Pepa, consisting of Cheryl 'Salt' James, Sandra 'Pepa' Denton and DJ Spinderella (Deidra Muriel Roper), took the stage first and performed a number of their classics, including "Shoop," "Let's Talk About Sex" and "Push It."

En Vogue -- Rhona Bennett, Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron -- joined in to perform their 1993 collaborative effort with Salt-N-Pepa, "Whatta Man."

The duet marked the 30th anniversary of Salt-N-Pepa becoming the first female rap artists to reach the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"Thirty years later, we're still Pushing It all over the world and we're still loved and celebrated by fans we grew up with as well as new fans. Looking back at all the barriers we've broken as women in this very male dominated genre of music, being the first two female rappers to break the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 is right up there as one of the best moments of our amazing career. We are blessed," Salt-N-Pepa said in a statement.

Salt-N-Pepa are set to embark on a summer tour on June 8, before starting a Las Vegas residency later this year. En Vogue recently released their first album in 14 years titled Electric Cafe.

The 2018 Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Kelly Clarkson, also included performances by Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, South Korean boy band BTS and Shawn Mendes, who took the stage with Khalid and the show choir from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed in a mass shooting in February.
