Dec. 5 (UPI) -- BTS has scored the highest-charting Hot 100 hit for a K-pop group with their song "MIC Drop" featuring Desiigner.

The track, which was remixed by Steve Aoki, has debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 chart at No. 28, making it the first Top 40 song for any K-pop group.

"MIC Drop" has exceeded the band's Hot 100 entry "DNA" which reached No. 67 when the song was released in October.

Singer Psy is the only other Korean artist to reach the Top 40 with his 2012 hit "Gangnam Style," which peaked at No. 2 in 2012.

BTS' success with "MIC Drop" comes after the collective has started to take the United States by storm having recently performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Late Show and at the American Music Awards.

The performance at the AMAs led to the boy band earning a spot in the 2018 Guinness World Records Book for becoming the most retweeted music group.
