Diana Ross collects Lifetime Achievement honor; Bruno Mars, Keith Urban win big at the AMAs

Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Bruno Mars was named Artist of the Year and Diana Ross accepted the Lifetime Achievement honor at Sunday's American Music Awards show in Los Angeles.

Ross performed a medley of her hits and received a congratulations message from former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Ross' daughter Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the gala, which aired live on ABC.

The New Artist of the Year prize went to Niall Horan and Lady Gaga won for the Favorite Female Artist -- Pop/Rock.

Keith Urban was also a big winner at the AMAs. He was voted Favorite Male Artist -- Country and also picked up the trophies for Favorite Album -- for Ripcord and Favorite Song -- Country for "Blue Ain't Your Color."

Imagine Dragons was deemed Favorite Duo or Group -- Pop/Rock; Linkin Park was selected Favorite Artist -- Alternative Rock; and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee earned the Collaboration of the Year title for their hit song "Despacito."

Other winners included Shawn Mendes for Favorite Artist -- Adult Contemporary; The Chainsmokers for Favorite Artist -- Electronic Dance Music; and DJ Khaled for Favorite Song -- Rap/Hip-Hop for "I'm the One."
