The free concert was organized to help heal the city following the protests that rocked the area in August. Donations that were accepted went to help victims from the protests as well as their families and first responders.
The pop star shared on Instagram footage of himself thanking the fans in attendance onstage with the caption, "Thank you #Charlottesville! There was so much love in the air tonight!"
Williams also got political during his performance when he took a knee in reference to President Donald Trump condemning NFL players who have kneeled during the national anthem as a form of protest. "If I want to get on my knees right now for the people of my city, for the people of my state, that's what this flag is for," Williams said.
Other performers included Chris Stapleton, Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, and Cage the Elephant.
