"LIFT OFF. LOVE YOU ALL. It's yours now xx hope you like it xx," he tweeted to his 4.6 million followers. "'Too Good at Goodbyes' is finally here gorgeous people!!"

Smith said Friday that he wrote "Too Good at Goodbyes" with Jimmy Napes and Stargate in London. He followed up by posting a thank you message to his fans on Instagram.

"I'm about to get on a plane, so I just wanted to write to you all to say thank you. This week has been so tough & I have been insanely nervous. But your words and messages today have made me overwhelmingly happy," the star wrote.

"I'm so ecstatic to be back and I can't wait to sing for you all. See you on the other side. Love you all dearly," he added.

"Too Good at Goodbyes" is Smith's first single to debut since "Writing's On the Wall," his song for the James Bond film Spectre. The single will appear on Smith's new album, which he recently discussed with iHeartRadio.

"I feel like I have grown as a songwriter," the star said. "I've really tried to push myself, and not just write songs that are about me and my relationships. They're about my family, and I've spoken a bit about the world and my views on that."

"Every single song on this album is a little short story," he shared. "It's heartfelt. It's not the happiest album, I'm never gonna write the happiest music, because what's the fun in that?"

Smith has yet to announce a title and release date for his second studio album.
