Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Alanis Morissette is opening up about her debilitating experience with postpartum depression.

The 43-year-old singer said in an interview with People published Wednesday that she has been struggling with the condition since welcoming daughter Onyx Solace with husband Mario Treadway, aka Souleye, in June 2016.

"There are days I'm debilitated to the point where I can barely move," she told the magazine. "As a kid, I imagined having children and being with an amazing partner. This is a whole other wrench I didn't anticipate."

Morissette first experienced postpartum depression after giving birth to her son, Ever Imre, in December 2010, but wasn't diagnosed until 16 months later. She said the condition returned "seconds" after she welcomed Onyx.

"It's very isolating," the star said. "I'm used to being the Rock of Gibraltar, providing, protecting and maneuvering. It had me question everything. I've known myself to be a really incredible decision-maker and a leader that people can rely on. [Now] I can barely decided what to eat for dinner."

"[It's] four times worse [now]," she added. "My main priority is that I want to make sure both of my children are loved and bonded with and provided for."

Morissette said songwriting has been an outlet as she copes with her postpartum depression. She also told fans in an Instagram post this week that she has been reading books about finding happiness and understanding the body.

"right now. #sufferingisoptional #thesubtlebody #prayersofhonoring #practicingpeaceintimesofwar," the singer captioned a photo of her books.
