Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Pop icon Cher promised to open her home up to Dreamers, the group of immigrants brought to the United States as children and now face potential deportation, and urged others to do the same Tuesday.

"Those who can must take a Dreamer into their home and protect them," she wrote. I'm ready to do this and others in my business will do the same."

She added: "[The United States] has been Dreamers' only home. How can we throw them into the wilderness? Trump is [a] complete coward."

Cher's missive comes after President Donald Trump gave Congress six months to pass immigration reform to deal with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which was started by former President Barack Obama through an executive order in 2012.

Trump, who like Cher is a prolific tweeter, said Tuesday that, at the end of six months, he will "revisit the issue."
