Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Showtime is set to air Prince's rare 1987 concert film Sign o' the Times on September 16.

A companion piece to Prince's 1987 double album of the same, Sign o' the Times includes performances of the title track, "U Got the Look," "If I Was Your Girlfriend," "Little Red Corvette," and a Sheila E. drum solo, Spin reported.

This will mark the first time the film has aired on U.S. television in over a decade. Sign o' the Times struggled at the box office during its theatrical release and was never re-issued on DVD following its VHS release in 1991.

Sign o' the Times was directed by Prince who filmed the project primarily at his Paisley Park Studios, Variety reported. Additional filming took place while The Purple One was on tour in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was produced by Robert Cavallo, Joseph Ruffalo and Steven Fargnoli.

After airing on Showtime, the concert film will be available through on-demand the next day.
