July 5 (UPI) -- Lady Gaga showed love for Ed Sheeran on social media after the "Shape of You" told The Sun that he quit Twitter because he was being bullied.

"I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it," Sheeran said. "I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter's a platform for that.

"One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it," he explained.

Lady Gaga, who leads anti-bullying campaign Born This Way, posted alongside a photo of the pair, "What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED @teddysphotos deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity."

Sheeran had given up social media in December 2015 after touring for his album X. He left Twitter and Instagram for a year.

"I've had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed," he posted.
