July 3 (UPI) -- South Korean girl group Twice topped the Oricon chart with their Japanese debut album this week. The K-pop stars' album #TWICE reached No. 1 on the Tokyo-based company's June 2 chart, which ranks albums according to sales in Japan.

"#TWICE, released last Thursday in Japan, rose to No. 1 on Oricon's daily album sales chart as of Sunday," Twice's agency, JYP Entertainment, confirmed in a statement.
The Chosun Ilbo reported #TWICE sold 46,871 copies in its first day. The record sold more than 115,000 copies as of Monday, according to the Korea Herald.
Twice promoted the album Sunday at a debut showcase in Tokyo. The nine-girl group, which includes two Japanese members, discussed their future plans in an interview with Billboard in June.
"A concept that I feel like we'd like to show our fans is a powerful, stronger side of us, possibly in the future," Chaeyoung said.
"In terms of writing lyrics, we would someday like to release a separate album that has songs we've all written on our own," Sana added.
In addition to Chaeyoung and Sana, Twice consists of singers Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Tzuyu. The group is known for the singles "Cheer Up," "Knock Knock" and "Signal."
