May 9 (UPI) -- Harry Styles delighted fans Tuesday by debuting the new song "Carolina" on Today.

The 23-year-old British singer performed the track and his songs "Sign of the Times" and "Ever Since New York" in front of a screaming crowd in New York.

Styles, who wore a black shirt and pink suit, bought pizza the night before for fans who waited days to see him.

"People started lining up on Saturday," Today plaza producer Alex Ficquette told People. "This crowd has the most non-New Yorkers we'e ever seen. People have flown in for the concert."

"He's been so great with the fans," he added.

"Carolina," "Sign of the Times" and "Ever Since New York" will appear on Styles' forthcoming solo album, along with the new song "Sweet Creature." The self-titled record will debut Friday.

"I wanted to write my stories, things that happened to me," the star said of the album in the May 4 issue of Rolling Stone. "The number-one thing was I wanted to be honest. I hadn't done that before."

Styles came to fame as a member of the British boy band One Direction, which has been on an indefinite hiatus since December 2015. His bandmate Niall Horan released a new solo single, "Slow Hands," last week.
