March 6 (UPI) -- Katy Perry performed for the first time since her recent split Sunday at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
The 32-year-old singer returned to the stage with a new, platinum blonde pixie cut after announcing she and boyfriend Orlando Bloom are taking a break.
Perry performed her new single, "Chained to the Rhythm," after walking the red carpet in a white and gold jumpsuit. She later joked on Instagram about how she had food in her teeth as she posed for photos.
"Currently taking applications for real friends who aren't afraid to tell me there's quinoa in my teeth," the star captioned a photo of her smile.
Perry was nominated at the awards show for Best Fan Army, but lost to Fifth Harmony. The singer debuted her new hairstyle Thursday on Twitter, and discussed the change with Elvis Duran at the ceremony.
"I've always wanted to look like Miley Cyrus. I've always wanted to have that pixie haircut, so I said, 'Let's just go for it,'" she shared.
"I feel like there's a new wave, a new authentic vibe coming in and I think this matches. I want to redefine what it means to be feminine. Look at Scarlett Johansson, who's one of the most beautiful women in the world ... you can be hot and look great with this kind of hair," the star added.
Perry and Bloom announced in a joint statement on Feb. 28 that they are "taking respectful, loving space" from their relationship. The couple were first linked in January 2016 after being spotted at a Golden Globes after-party.
