March 2 (UPI) -- Justin Bieber wants to become "a better man" in the coming year. The "Sorry" singer posted a throwback photo and a heartfelt message on Instagram to mark his 23rd birthday Wednesday.
"It's my birthday and all I want is to be a better friend, better brother, better son and better man," he captioned the picture for his 79.2 million followers.
Bieber followed up by posting a photo of himself riding an ATV, writing, "Got some air on my bday." His manager, Scooter Braun, and DJ Khaled, whom he reportedly has a new song with, were among those to wish him a happy birthday online.
"To another 23 years...keep shining your light onto the world. #jb23 #mybrother happy birthday @justinbieber," Braun tweeted.
"Happy bday the YOUNG ICON! @justinbieber ! Bless up young [king]! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP ! #GRATEFUL," DJ Khaled wrote on Instagram.
Bieber, who was investigated in February for allegedly headbutting a man, has previously voiced a desire to change his behavior. He told the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show in 2015 he was working on ridding his life of negative influences.
"I just want to be around people who I feel are supporting me, uplifting me, and making sure I'm the best version of myself," the star explained.
"It has to be on you. You have to take the conscious effort, because for me, so many times it was good people coming in my life and tugging at me, but I wasn't ready," he admitted.
Bieber last released the album Purpose in November 2015. The record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and includes the singles "What Do You Mean?," "Sorry" and "Love Yourself."
