Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Elton John will help bring The Devil Wears Prada to Broadway. The 69-year-old English singer and American playwright Paul Rudnick will write a musical adaptation of the 2006 film for Fox Stage Productions, according to Variety.

The musical has reportedly been in the works for a few years, and will be produced by Fox Stage Productions, Kevin McCollum and Rocket Entertainment, the production company helmed by John's husband, David Furnish.
"Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theater is super exciting," John said in a statement. "I'm a huge fan of both the book and feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can't wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture."
"To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story," Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions and McCollum added.
"We needed artists whose work has run the gaunt from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That's all!" the pair said.
The Devil Wears Prada is based on the Lauren Weisberger novel of the same name, which follows college graduate Andrea as she works for powerful fashion magazine editor Miranda. The movie starred Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, and earned $326 million at the box office.
John previously composed the music for the Broadway hits The Lion King, Aida and Billy Elliot the Musical. Rudnick is known for the plays I Hate Hamlet, Jeffrey and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told.
