LONDON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Louis Tomlinson's mom died this week after a months-long battle with leukemia.
The family confirmed in a statement to E! News that Johannah Deakin died Wednesday morning after being diagnosed with leukemia earlier in the year.
"It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin's family said goodbye to Johanna in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December 2016," the statement reads.
"Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that required immediate and continuous treatment. We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private," the statement concludes.
Deakin would have celebrated her 43rd birthday Dec. 16. She is survived by Tomlinson and six other children, 18-year-old Lottie, 16-year-old Felicité, 12-year-old twins Daisy and Phoebe and 2-year-old twins Ernest and Doris.
Tomlinson had dedicated a throwback post to his mom in November. He shared a photo of himself with Deakin before the 2016 Brit Awards, writing, "My mother looking gorgeous before the Brits earlier this year. I love you and miss you so much!"
Tomlinson is best known as a member of One Direction, which last performed as a group in December 2015. The British boy band is on an indefinite hiatus to rest and pursue solo careers.
