LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Iggy Azalea says her split from fiancé Nick Young caused her to delay her new album.

The 26-year-old Australian rapper revealed in an interview with People that she pushed back the release of her record Digital Distortion due to her highly publicized breakup with the 32-year-old NBA star.

"I needed a lot of time," she told the magazine. "I mean, you wake up one morning and your fiancé is having a baby with someone else, you're going to need some time, right?"

Azalea and Young ended their engagement in June amid rumors the Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard had cheated. It was later revealed that Young is expecting his second child with ex-girlfriend Keonna Green.

"I just kind of felt like, on top of me needing the personal time, then feeling, 'Okay, I'm single now. I want to have sexy songs. I want to say stuff about being single,'" Azalea explained. "I obviously didn't write that on my [original] album because when I wrote it I was about to get married."

"It's no secret, I kind of had my personal life fall apart," she said. "[I'm adding] that extra little sprinkle of perfection [to the album]."

Azalea had planned to drop Digital Distortion in July but will now release the album in January 2017. She appears to have moved on romantically with rapper French Montana, while Young was recently spotted kissing singer Paloma Ford.

"[They] are very much a couple," a source said of Azalea and Montana to Us Weekly in August. "They've been all over each other."
