Blink-182 dethrones Drake from top spot on Billboard 200

NEW YORK, July 11 (UPI) -- Blink-182's seventh studio album, California, has reached no. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts ending Drake's nine week reign in the top spot.

According to Billboard, the album has sold 186,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 7. The number which takes into account album streams, included 172,000 copies that came from actual album sales, making it the third-largest rock release of the year behind Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool (173,000), and David Bowie's Blackstar (174,000).

California represents Blink-182's second no. 1 album following the 2001 release of Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and the first album without singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge who left in 2015. Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba has taken his place.

The album was led by single "Bored to Death" which recently received a new music video.

The release ends Drake's historic run atop the Billboard charts with his fourth studio album Views falling to second place with 117,000 equivalent album units sold. The rapper's nine week reign places Views third among hip-hop albums with consecutive weeks at the top behind Vanilla Ice's 16 week run with 1990's To the Extreme and M.C. Hammer's 1991 release Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em which spent 21 weeks at no. 1.

Coming in at number three for the week ending July 7 was Maxwell's latest R&B release, blackSUMMERS'night having sold 59,000 equivalent album units.
