Sinead O'Connor found safe after missing one day

WILMETTE, Ill., May 16 (UPI) -- Singer-songwriter Sinead O'Connor was found safe Monday afternoon after being reported missing a day earlier in a Chicago northern suburb.

The official Wilmette, Ill., police department statement reads: "She is safe and no longer listed as a missing/endangered person."

O'Connor was located at a nearby hotel and was taken to a local hospital, a source told WGN-TV.

The 49-year-old Irish singer was reported missing Sunday after she didn't return from a bike ride in Wilmette, Ill. TMZ reported police were classifying O'Connor as missing and possibly suicidal.

Wilmette police issued a press release Monday confirming they are "seeking to check the well-being of Sinead O'Connor." The person who called in to police "expressed concern for [the star's] well-being."

O'Connor left on her ride at 6 a.m. CT Sunday and was reported missing hours later.

The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer posted a message on Facebook around 8 a.m. CT Sunday instructing her 28-year-old son, Jake, to take custody of her 12-year-old son, Shane, from Tusla, a child and family agency outside Dublin.

"Jake, kindly go to the court on Tuesday and take custody your brother from Tusla. My lawyer will be making the illegal way yourself and Donal got him into Tusla (lying to the cops etc) known to the judge. expect to be in trouble. In fact you'd best bring a lawyer of your own. And do not abandon your brother or any other of my babies again. What you have done to your brother and your mother is LITERALLY criminal."

O'Connor encouraged Shane to hire a lawyer and leave Tusla's care in another post Friday. She said she had to "back off" herself because the agency is "hurting [her] so badly [she gets] unwell again if [she goes] near them."

O'Connor received medical treatment in November after intentionally overdosing on drugs in a possible suicide attempt.

Comedian Arsenio Hall sued the singer for libel last week after O'Connor claimed he supplied Prince with drugs.
