LOS ANGELES, May 13 (UPI) -- Jessica Simpson is working on new music and will perform on Today in August.
The 35-year-old singer teased her return this week by posting photos from the recording studio on Instagram. Simpson shared a picture of herself with singer-songwriter Linda Perry and captioned another shot "Studio vibin'."
Simpson released her sixth studio album, Do You Know, in 2008, and followed up with the holiday album Happy Christmas in 2010. The singer confirmed her return to the studio in an interview with The Huffington Post this week.
"It's been a very exciting time to rediscover music and I definitely have so much inspiration," Simpson said. "There's a lot to talk about. There's a lot to sing about. There's a lot I feel like people will relate to."
"I've been in the music business for so long, and it's interesting to see what I come up with as a mom and the perspective I have after all the records I have made and all the life situations I've been through," she elaborated.
The Today show announced Friday that Simpson will perform on their summer concert series Aug. 26. The singer revealed she was building a recording studio in her home when she visited the talk show in September.
"That project is almost wrapped up. I probably have, like, maybe three more weeks until it's done and I'm down in my basement recording." "[Singing has] always [been] one of my biggest passions in the world. I love to use my voice."
Simpson continues to oversee her Jessica Simpson Collection fashion line, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2015. The singer married Eric Johnson in 2014 and shares 4-year-old daughter Maxwell and 2-year-old son Ace with the retired NFL player.
