Spice Girls reportedly planning 20th anniversary reunion

LONDON, March 25 (UPI) -- The Spice Girls reportedly have a 20th anniversary reunion in the works.

A source told Us Weekly the British girl group are planning a tour to celebrate the 1996 release of their debut studio album, Spice.

"This has been in the works for the past year," the insider said. "The girls have long been keen to do a major reunion tour together."

"They are trying to convince Victoria [Beckham] to jump in, but she doesn't want to do it," a second source added. "If she doesn't agree, they are moving ahead without her."

Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell last reunited on tour for The Return of the Spice Girls in 2007. The fivesome performed again at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London.

"She won't sing or dance," the first insider said of Beckham. "There's a small chance she'll film something with them or make an appearance at a show here and there."

The 20th anniversary tour has been rumored for months, along with whispers of a joint tour with the Backstreet Boys. Bunton told the Telegraph in an interview this week she is hopeful for some sort of reunion.

"We adore each other. There's so much we've been through. I would love to do something," the singer said. "I think we'd all quite like to do something, but it really is figuring it out. We all have such different lives."

Brown shared similar sentiments in December, telling Alan Carr "it would be rude not to celebrate." The Spice Girls released three studio albums, Spice, Spiceworld and Forever, before splitting in 2000.
