LONDON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- One Direction released its "History" music video Tuesday, nearly four weeks after the start of a planned hiatus. The video begins with the band's formation on The X-Factor and includes career-spanning footage from the next five years. The group's loyal fans are seen in several clips as One Direction sings, "You and me got a whole lot of history. So don't let it go. We can make some more; we can live forever."

"History" appears on the band's fifth studio album, Made in the A.M., which dropped in November. The record debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, selling over 400,000 copies in its first week, and includes the singles "Drag Me Down" and "Perfect."
The reflective video proved emotional for fans still upset by One Direction's hiatus. The group performed on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve in December before taking an indefinite break to rest and pursue solo musical careers.
A One Direction rep denied rumors of a permanent split this month after Us Weekly reported the band won't get back together. Sources told the magazine the group opted "not to renew their recording contract," claiming, "The 1D thing just ran its course."
Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction are expected to take a minimum 18-month hiatus. The break follows the departure in March of Zayn Malik, who will release his first solo single, "Pillow Talk," on Friday.
