LAS VEGAS, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Celine Dion will take a hiatus following husband Rene Angelil's death on Thursday.
The 47-year-old Canadian singer canceled her upcoming Las Vegas residency shows at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in light of Angelil's passing, and will return to the stage Feb. 23.
"With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Celine performances Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been canceled," the venue's website reads.
"Celine earlier today announced the death of her husband Rene Angelil after a long fight with cancer. The couple had celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last month. All of us at AEG and at Caesars Palace have Celine and her children in our thoughts and prayers."
Dion announced Angelil's death in a statement on her website, saying her longtime love died at age 73 "after a long battle with cancer." The Clark County Office told E! News Angelil died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson, Nev.
Angelil served as Dion's manager for over a decade before marrying the singer in 1994. He stepped down from the position in June 2014 due to his failing health, and Dion later put her career on hold to care for her husband full-time.
Dion, who kicked off her Las Vegas residency in 2011, will perform at The Colosseum until 2019. She and Angelil share three sons, 14-year-old Rene-Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, in addition to Angelil's three children by previous partners.
