LONDON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Adele says motherhood in the spotlight is difficult at times but gives her added purpose.

The 27-year-old English singer opened up about 3-year-old son Angelo in an interview for the Dec. 21 issue of Time. Adele told the magazine her family helps keep her grounded, even as her fame continues to grow with the success of her new album.

"He makes me so proud of myself, and he makes me like myself so much," she said. "And I've always liked myself. I've never not liked myself. I don't have hangups like that. But I'm so proud of myself that I made him in my belly ... Whatever my kid wants to do or be I will always support him no matter what."

"It's a normal a life as I can have," she added. "I think people would be pretty surprised. When I'm not doing a photo shoot, it's just me, my boyfriend and the baby ... It's important so you stay in touch with yourself. If you lose touch with yourself, no one's going to want to talk to you or listen to anything you're [expletive] doing."

Adele and boyfriend Simon Konecki have been together since 2011, and welcomed Angelo in October 2012. The couple successfully sued a photo agency over paparazzi images of the toddler in 2013, and the singer recently told Today her son remains her number one priority.

"He is the first person I see in the morning and the last person I see at night," she shared. "I make time for him, like I always have. That's one of the reasons I've been away [from music] for so long. My kid is more important. My kid comes first; my music comes second."

Adele's latest album, 25, sold a record-breaking 5.98 million copies in its first four weeks, the best-selling album since her 2011 release 21. The new album was released Nov. 20, and includes the hit single "Hello."
