LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Pop-star Justin Bieber released his new single "What Do You Mean?" Friday with an accompanying lyric video.

The song, now available on Apple Music and Spotify, was announced back in July as Bieber's return to music since 2013's compilation album Journals.

The lyric video directed by Laban, shows Bieber skateboarding alongside professional skaters Ryan Sheckler and Chelsea Castro as the the song's lyrics appear on screen.

"What Do You Mean? is an up-tempo song," he told Radio.com Friday. "It's actually perfect for summer, even though summer's just ending. I had the best time recording it; I had the best time recording my album."

Bieber elaborated further on his new album, saying, "I've been working on this thing for three years. I've been trying to figure out the sound. I've been going through phases of doing R&B music, and then really hard hip-hop based music, and now I'm in a place of wanting to really bring all those things together to make one cohesive sound. But it's always weird when people start describing the music that they make. [Other artists and bands will say,] 'It's different,' but my [expletive] is really different."

The new single marks a turning point for Bieber who on Thursday admitted to radio host Elvis Duran the past mistakes he's made and how he's turning things around for the better.

Justin Bieber will be performing "What Do You Mean?" for the first time live Sunday during the MTV Video Music Awards.
