Ozzy Osbourne honored at 2014 MTV EMAs

GLASGOW, Scotland, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Ozzy Osbourne was honored at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards on Sunday.

The 65-year-old Black Sabbath frontman received the Global Icon Award in recognition of his achievements in music. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, Biffy Clyro vocalist Simon Neil and Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators performed a cover of Osbourne's 1980 solo hit "Crazy Train" to celebrate the singer.

"For four decades the Prince of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen," Slash lauded of Osbourne to the audience. "This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats, but to me is a gentle man and a gentleman."

"I don't know where they got this icon [expletive] from, but it's good to be here tonight," Osbourne said as he accepted the award. "God bless you all, thank you for coming."

Osbourne has sold over 100 million records as a solo artist and member of Black Sabbath. The vocalist released his 11th solo album, Scream, in 2010, and debuted 13 with Black Sabbath in 2013. He and the metal band announced in September they plan to record a new album and embark on a final tour.

Osbourne and his family starred on MTV reality series The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005. Wife Sharon Osbourne revealed last week they plan to revive the series for an anticipated eight episodes, and expect to begin filming in January 2015.
