Taylor Swift's '1989' is No. 1 on the U.S. album chart

Swift's fifth studio album has sold the most records in a week since 2002 when "The Eminem Show" sold 1.322 million copies the week ending June 2.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift's 1989 is No. 1 on the U.S. album chart, selling 1.287 million copies during its first week in release, Billboard.com announced Wednesday.

The recording artist's fifth studio album has sold the most records in a week since 2002 when The Eminem Show sold 1.322 million copies the week ending June 2.

Although it has only been available since last week, 1989 is already the second best-selling album of the year, behind only the soundtrack to the animated phenomenon Frozen, which has sold 3.2 million copies.

Coming in at No. 2 on the current Billboard 200 chart after 1989 is the Now 52 compilation CD, followed by Sam Hunt's Motevallo at No. 3, Barry Manilow's My Dream Duets at No. 4 and Jason Aldean's Old Boots, New Dirt at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are Florida Georgia Line's Anything Goes at No. 6, Led Zeppelin's Led Leppelin IV at No. 7, Chris Tomlin's Love Ran Red at No. 8, Slipknot's 5: The Gray Chapter at No. 9 and Black Veil Brides' self-titled record at No. 10.
