VISTA, Calif., May 18 (UPI) -- Christian heavy metal singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for attempting to hire someone to kill his wife.
The As I Lay Dying frontman admitted in February to trying to hire a man he thought would take care of killing his wife, Megann Murphy, last May. He was actually attempting to hire an undercover sheriff's deputy.

He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of solicitation to murder.
In announcing the sentence, Judge Carlos Armour admitted it seemed out of character for Lambesis to attempt to hire someone to kill his wife.
The singer's lawyer argued the behavior was caused by steroid use, but Armour said most steroid users don't try to arrange a murder.
