TORONTO, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested Wednesday for the second time in a week, surrendering to Toronto police on a charge of assaulting a limo driver.

Before they could charge him, police had to make a path for Bieber to get to the police station, CNN reported. Fans, camera crews and others surrounded his SUV.

Bieber was allegedly part of a group that was driven from a Toronto club to a hotel at about 3 a.m. Dec. 29. The driver reported he was assaulted by one of his passengers after an argument.

Last Thursday, Bieber spent some time in a Miami lockup after being arrested there for allegedly drag racing in a residential area. He has been charged with drunken driving and driving with an expired license.

A spokesperson released a statement Wednesday while Bieber was still in the police station, saying the charges would probably be handed as "the equivalent of a misdemeanor."

"Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent," the statement said. "As the matter is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or of our defense at this time."
