Usher's ex reportedly wants custody of sons following near-drowning

ATLANTA, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- While the singer Usher thanked those who saved his son from drowning at his Georgia home, a source told People magazine his ex-wife now wants custody.

The source, described as someone close to Tameka Foster, said she is angry about what happened to her son. Foster reportedly filed a petition Tuesday to seek custody of Usher Raymond V, 5, and his brother, Naviyd Ely, 4.

"Now that it's sunk in, she is livid," the source told People. "Usher has custody and won't let Tameka have the kids, even when he's out of town. She feels like the kids are being raised by his family or by nannies, when they should be with their mother."

Usher V nearly drowned Monday when his arm got stuck in a drain at the pool. Two male employees were able to free him.

Both Usher and the source said Wednesday the boy is doing well.

"I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews," Usher said in a statement. "They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them."
