LOS ANGELES, July 8 (UPI) -- Rock band Metallica is to appear for the first time at Comic-Con in San Diego next week, organizers announced Monday.

Comic-Con is a convention where the creators of entertainment properties with cult followings interact with journalists and fans.

The musicians of Metallica are scheduled to take part in a panel discussion July 19 in support of their 3D feature film, "Metallica Through the Never."

Those who attend the talk will get the chance to win tickets to an intimate private concert Metallica will perform at a secret location in San Diego, Picturehouse said.

"'Metallica Through the Never' stars Metallica, one of the most popular, influential rock bands in history," a synopsis said. "In this music-driven, 3D motion-picture event, award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal immerses audiences in a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience with spectacular live performance footage of Metallica's most iconic songs -- created exclusively for film -- combined with a bold, narrative story featuring imagery drawn from the band's trailblazing iconography."

Picturehouse will release "Metallica Through the Never" in North America Sept. 27 exclusively in more than 300 IMAX 3D theaters. It will expand into additional theaters Oct. 4.
