Wallis will play spunky orphan Annie in the film Sony Pictures Entertainment is making with producers Will Smith and Jay-Z.

Wallis played Hushpuppy in last year's critically acclaimed "Beasts of the Southern Wild," a role for which she became the youngest actress ever to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Will Gluck, who directed the 2011 romantic comedy "Friends With Benefits," starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, will direct the new "Annie."
