Canada's Shania Twain Center may close

TIMMINS, Ontario, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The Shania Twain Center, located in the Canadian singer's hometown of Timmins, may be shut down due to slow ticket sales, officials said.

CBC News reported Monday the City Council is considering what to do with the tourist attraction shrine to the 47-year-old, Grammy-winning, country-pop singer-songwriter, which opened in 2001. One option is to sell it.

The center and a related gold-mine tour costs Timmins taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars every year, the CBC said.

Twain moved most her memorabilia out of her namesake center last summer after years of its failing to attract enough visitors to make it economically viable.

The attraction is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission to the Shania Twain Center is $10 for adults. Seniors and students are $8.

Combination tickets for the center and gold-mine tour are $24 for adults and $21 for seniors and students, the attraction's website said.
