NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Haitian-born recording artist Wyclef Jean says in his autobiography The Fugees broke up in 1997 after singer Lauryn Hill lied and told him he fathered her son.

"In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn't forgive that," the New York Post quoted Jean as writing in his book "Purpose," which is due out Tuesday.

"She could not longer be my muse," he said of Hill. "Our love spell was broken."

Hill later admitted Bob Marley's son, Rohan, was the father of her child.
