Van Dyke performance to benefit theater

MALIBU, Calif., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Actor-comedian Dick Van Dyke will sing with a trio in a one-night live performance to benefit a Los Angeles-area non-profit theater company, the theater says.

The 86-year-old actor, singer and dancer -- who the Screen Actors Guild announced Tuesday would receive its Life Achievement Award Jan. 27 -- will sing with the Vantastix male vocal trio to benefit the Malibu Stage Co. Sept. 12, the theater and Vantastix Web sites say.

The Vantastix Web site says the evening at the Pepperdine University Center for the Arts Smothers Theater will be called "Still Clowning Around."

Van Dyke is expected to perform a medley of songs from his years on TV, film and Broadway.

Songs they've recorded together include "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive," "It's Not Easy Being Green" and "Put On a Happy Face." The songs can be heard on Vantastix.com.

Van Dyke -- well known for his roles in the 1964 musical film "Mary Poppins" and the 1960s CBS-TV sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show" -- has performed with the Vantastix before.
