FRANKLIN, Tenn., July 8 (UPI) -- Country singer George Jones rejected the highest bid for his Tennessee estate at a weekend auction, the auction company said. Caley King Newberry, a spokeswoman for J.P. King Auction Co., said the singing star did not accept the $660,000 high bid for his spread in Franklin County.

"George Jones has declined," Newberry told The (Nashville) Tennessean. "So far, we have had 70 inquiries from 18 states, and there is some celebrity interest."
About 50 people showed up for Saturday's auction, which was Jones' latest attempt to sell 43 of the estate's 78 acres. The main house did not sell because no one met the $1.5 million opening price.
The Tennessean said Jones originally put the property on the market a year ago for $15.5 million. He dropped the price to $10 million before turning the sale over to J.P. King.
