ASPEN, Colo., April 9 (UPI) -- The late singer John Denver is among this year's nominees for induction into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame, organizers said.

The Aspen (Colo.) Daily News said he is nominated for his hit songs "Down Hill Stuff," "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado" and "Rocky Mountain High," which the member of the public who proposed him for nomination said "captured the essence of skiing."

Denver also organized and promoted the sport throughout the United States with a series of televised skiing events featuring celebrities filmed in Aspen and Lake Tahoe, the Daily News said.

The Hall of Fame inductees are expected to be announced this month.
