NASHVILLE, March 31 (UPI) -- American country music star George Jones has been hospitalized in Nashville with an upper respiratory infection, his publicist said.

"Reports that Mr. Jones has pneumonia, are simply false," publicist Kirt Webster told The (Nashville) Tennessean Friday. "Mr. Jones is being treated with antibiotics in order to clear up his respiratory infection and will remain in a Nashville area hospital until Tuesday."

Doctors want to keep the Country Music Hall of Fam member at least one night for observation, a statement on Jones' Web site said.

"Thanks to all my fans and friends for their prayers and support during this time," Jones said.

Jones is nominated for Vocal Event of the Year at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards for his collaboration with Aaron Lewis and Charlie Daniels on "Country Boy," E! Online reported Thursday.
