CHICAGO, March 12 (UPI) -- Bobbi Kristina Brown says she intends to honor the legacy of her late mother, American pop star Whitney Houston, by becoming a singer and actress.

Houston died last month at the age of 48 after years of drug and alcohol abuse. The cause of her death is still under investigation.

Brown, 19, is the only child of Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown. Her first interview since her mother's death aired Sunday night on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

"I'm doing as good as I possibly can at this point. I'm just trying to keep going," said Bobbi Kristina, who was hospitalized twice for anxiety immediately after her mother was found dead in her Los Angeles hotel room.

"I can sing her music, but to hear it now, I can't," she said. "I can hear her voice telling me: 'Keep moving, baby. I got you.' She's always with me. I can always feel her with me. She used to always say, 'Do you need me?' And I said, 'I always need you.'"

The teen described her mother as "my confidante, my everything," and said she still feels her presence even though she is dead.

"I have to carry on the legacy," Bobbi Kristina said. "We're gonna do the singing thing. Some acting, some dancing. ... It's a lot of pressure, but she prepared me for it."
