NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Rockers Linkin Park visited the United Nations headquarters in New York to show their support of an initiative to ensure universal energy access by 2030.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is leading the initiative, welcomed the musicians Tuesday.

"I don't know much about rock music. I stopped listening after Elvis!" Ban joked during a press briefing. "But this much I do know: bands such as Linkin Park reach tens of millions of people. ... More than 9 million people have seen the 'Not Alone' video, which helped our work in Haiti after the earthquake. So it was natural that I should ask [Linkin Park] to support my Sustainable Energy for All initiative -- another U.N. effort to build the future we want."

The initiative was started in September and is intended to achieve universal access to modern energy services, doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, the United Nations said in a news release.
