Katy Perry wins big at VMA Awards

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Pop star Katy Perry took home three trophies, including the top prize for Video of the Year, at the MTV Video Music Awards show in Los Angeles.

Perry nabbed the Sunday night event's highest honor for her song "Firework." She also shared the prize for best collaboration for "E.T.," a clip she made with Kanye West.
 "E.T."
 earned the award for Best Special Effects, as well.

Lady Gaga picked up the statuettes for Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message for "Born This Way." The recording star known for her outrageous outfits accepted her awards dressed as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone.

Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" garnered the gongs for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.

Justin Bieber earned the accolade for Best Male Video for "U Smile," Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" was named Best Hip-Hop Video, Foo Fighters' "Walk" took the award for Best Rock Video and

Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends" won the award for Best Pop Video. She also was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Tyler, The Creator, singer of "Yonkers," was named Best New Artist, Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)" won the award for Best Choreography and Beastie Boys' "Make Some Noise" won for Best Direction.
