LONDON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher says he had no choice but to sue his own brother over remarks he made when the band canceled a 2009 gig in Great Britain.

Liam Gallagher sued his older sibling for telling the media Oasis could not play the V Festival because Liam was hung over.

"All I want is an apology," Liam said in a written statement in which he repeated his contention he had laryngitis at the time and could not go on.

"The truth is I had laryngitis, which Noel was made fully aware of that morning, diagnosed by a doctor," Liam said.

Noel Gallagher had no immediate comment on the matter.

The two brothers carried on a long-running public bickering campaign since the 1990s, the BBC reported Saturday. But Liam decided Noel's version of the V Festival cancellation "went way beyond rock-and-roll banter and questioned my professionalism.

The dueling Gallaghers are now working for separate bands these days.
