NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Lady Gaga announced she will kick off the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles with the broadcast premier of her "You and I" video.

Gaga made the announcement in typically splashy style this week in New York's Times Square by having some of her fans unfurl a banner reading "GaGa To Open VMAs."

"It means the world to me," Gaga gushed to Parade magazine. "I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans."

Joining Gaga on the bill for the Aug. 28 show will be Adele, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars and others.

There will be plenty of star power orbiting the Nokia Theater even before the extravaganza begins. MTV says the pre-show festivities will be hosted by Selena Gomez and feature a live performance by Cobra Starship, who will belt out their smash dance hit "You Make Me Feel."

Fans watching MTV at home can get warmed up for the show with an all-new episode of "Jersey Shore," the network said in a written statement.
