LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Music producer Phil Spector's bid to overturn his 2009 murder conviction has been denied by the California Supreme Court, records show.

Spector, 71, was convicted in the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.

Rolling Stone said Thursday the court denied an appeal filed by Spector's lawyers requesting a review of the conviction.

A first trial in 2007 ended in a hung jury and a mistrial was declared.
