Spanish police arrest 5 in Lady Gaga scam

MADRID, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Spanish police have arrested five people on suspicion of having sold fake Lady Gaga concert tickets last year in Madrid, officials said.

Spanish National Police were alerted to the scam after close to 100 people who bought tickets online to see the U.S. pop star in concert filed a complaint when the tickets turned out to be invalid, La Vanguardia reported Tuesday.

The suspects allegedly earned more than $42,500 after setting up hyperlinks to their concert ticket Web site on pages that allowed free advertising.

The buyers paid up to $260 each -- twice the real price -- for the concert that about 18,000 people attended last December.

Police also found fake tickets for Shakira concerts and bullfights in the apartment where the alleged ringleader was arrested.
