MINNEAPOLIS, July 24 (UPI) -- Bono brought a Somali singer on stage at U2's concert in Minneapolis this weekend and urged the audience to get behind famine relief in the Horn of Africa.

Bono called pop star-activist K'naan "a wise man who has shown great leadership on behalf of Somalia" and joined him in a rendition of "Stand by Me."

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune said Sunday that Bono met prior to the show with K'naan and other representatives of the Twin Cities Somali community and U.S. relief organizations. The situation in Somalia has been becoming more grim this summer as drought cuts into the region's food supply.

"This is the beginning of a conversation that is going to go on," Bono said at the end of the meeting, which took place just an hour before the concert began, the newspaper said.
