MALIBU, Calif., May 21 (UPI) -- P!nk may be seeing red, but Selena Gomez says the painted horses used in her new music video weren't in any danger.

A written statement from Gomez's camp said the pink horses that co-starred in the video were made up with a "vegetable-based powder paint and a Humane Society observer was on the set."

"It was important to the production company, record label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken," Gomez's reps said.

People Magazine said the script for the Malibu shoot didn't sit well with P!nk. The pop star tweeted this week she was appalled at the whole idea.

"If there are any animal activists around Malibu -- at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame," P!nk wrote Thursday.
